Top 5 Hangover Cures for the Festival Traveler

Attending a festival and overindulgence can go hand-in-hand. It’s easy to lose track of trips to the beer gardens when they’re layered between partying with your friends and taking in amazing live performances. A few hangover cures will help keep the energy up and allow you to get the most out of the music festival.

Don’t drink on an empty stomach

One of the key ways to reduce your chances of having a killer hangover you will never forget is to make sure you eat a good meal before you start knockin’ ‘em back. Food will help to slow the absorption of alcohol into your bloodstream. The ideal snack is full of healthy fat and lean protein, but if you can’t get your hands on avocado toast topped with smoked salmon, a generous pizza slice will do just fine.

Fluids are your friends

Arguably the worst part of starting the day after a night of drinking is how your mouth feels like it’s coated in rubber. Rehydrate and flush impurities out of your system by drinking lots of water and beverages packed with electrolytes. Spend the morning on double duty with a large bottle of water in one hand and a coconut water sports drink in the other.

Make breakfast a priority

Food may not be top of mind the moment you wake up with a hangover, but a good breakfast can help stabilize your blood sugar and improve your mood. Try and find a diner and opt for an omelet, or at the very least grab a green juice or smoothie. Bonus points if you can get ginger and bananas in your system—natural remedies for nausea and sore muscles, respectively.

Move your body

You can’t sweat out a hangover (that’s a myth), but exercise releases endorphins, which can help improve your mood. Also, burning off a few extra calories certainly won’t hurt. We’re not talking a 10k morning run; a quick dip in the hotel pool will do or if you’re not too far from the festival you can choose to skip the Uber and walk to the event.

Pace Yourself

The killjoy remedy is unfortunately the most effective. A slow and steady flow of cold drinks over the day rather than binging on shots of jäger is definitely the way to go. This will improve your chances of downing some water in between adult beverages and a few snacks, which will reduce the severity of your hangover the next day.
